FRAME vs FIELD

Perspective 1 is about the living environment that citizens in Ersilia have currently. They use strings to show their relationships. Therefore I set a butcher shop and a pair of shoemakers to explain the trade relations. Also with a man helping a beggar showing the friendship between citizens. From the idea of the “abandon” city, I added spider webs and old stone walls to show the ageing of the city. Furthermore, the ceiling with beautiful patterns indicates people’s forgetfulness of managing the city.

Perspective 1
Perspective 2
The story mentions that people were moving out from the old city and then make a new one. By considering the motivation of moving out, I thought that the reason could be various. Not only about being disturbed with the strings, but also about the human nature of liking new and hating old. Therefore, Marco Polo would see a better-off family moving out because this kind of people are more likely to be bored with the current condition. And their leaving and the carelessness with old city accelerate the aging of the old Ersilia.
